A Thanksgiving Gift You can be Grateful for!

‘Tis the season…to be grateful!

As the holidays roll around, many of us begin to “practice the presents” (pun intended). But in all seriousness, this is a great time to practice the Presence. The Presence is that source of all your feelings of well-being, peace and love; and there is one surefire way to be in consistent contact with it: GRATITUDE!

As my present to you this holiday, here is a powerful and fun practice to bring the most gratitude and Presence into your Thanksgiving experience:

  1. Find a comfortable place to sit or lay down
  2. Begin to breathe in and out in a circular fashion (without pausing)
  3. Allow your focus to center around the heart, as if your heart had a little mouth it was breathing in and out of.
  4. After a minute of practice, introduce the thought-seed of gratitude, and let yourself feel what sprouts from your process. Different people, places, and things that have been of great benefit in your life will begin to arise in your consciousness.
  5. As these things arise allow yourself to feel the gratitude they bring. Feed that gratitude back into your heart and let the next person, place or thing arise that you are grateful for.

Do this for 5 minutes each day (or more if you are inspired!) until Thanksgiving, and I guarantee you will have the most present and connected Thanksgiving celebration you have ever experienced!

The Power of The Presence Process

Week 1, Day1 of The Presence Process, “This Moment Matters”…

And indeed it does! This is a powerful process, but I did not expect it would kick in from the very start! What I have to say I realize just from keeping that Conscious Response at the forefront of my consciousness (This Moment Matters), it actually helps make the moment matter more!

How does it do that? For me, it seems to draw my attention to the practice of looking for what matters in the moment. I realize that I have allowed myself to often be the victim of my own passion-less consciousness, where I “know” everything matters, so in this “knowledge” ultimately nothing matters; at least that is how I end up expressing it.

I noticed myself looking at my situations today from a positive lens, rather than a pessimistic one. Same story—glass is filled the same, but is it half empty or half full? This moment matters makes it appear half full, and I don’t even dwell on the half…it is just full!

My journal report after my first breath session was pretty basic. A little light-headed, tingly, restless especially in the right foot. No real sense of emotions expect that I felt a sense of like I was in the beginning stages of working up to crying…but no definitive emotional expression.

What is The Presence Process?

For those of you who may not yet be aware of The Presence Process (TPP), it is a phenomenal approach to integrating your being on all levels…physical, emotional, mental…even spiritual. The “goal” if there is one is Present Moment Awareness. Which ultimately is where the magic of life happens, we just happen to be projected into the future or the past most of the time while it is happening so we miss it. TPP brings awareness of the energies that have been keeping us out of the Present Moment, and goes even further in that it offers a way to integrate those energies.

TPP is disseminated in a book of the same name, authored by Michael Brown. In addition to embarking on this journey myself for the 5th time, I am leading a 12-week tele-series conducting a group of journeyers through TPP for the 2nd time. Yesterday was the 2nd call, and today is the first official day on the journey. It you are living many regions of San Diego or LA right now you may be aware that the air quality is not very good due to all teh amoke from the various raging fires currently underway. This may most certainly be a hazard to your overall health. Looking up reports, the air quality on the San Diego coast is moderate, and inland is unsafe for sensitive groups.If you are feeling considerably lower in the physical health spectrum than you normally do, you will want to minimize the amount of polluntants you assimilate into your system. What can be done about it?

How to Protect Your Family from the Health Effects of Smoke

Breathe Less. Yes, there actually are situations where a breathing expert would condone taking small shallower breaths than fuller, deeper ones. Breathing in fire smoke is just one of those times. However, it does still affect your ability to be super alert and energetic, but this is a better trade off than breathing deep a lot of soot.Pay attention to local air quality reports and stay alert to any news coverage or health warnings related to smoke.Use common sense. If it looks smoky outside, it’s probably not a good time to mow the lawn or go for a run. And it’s probably not a good time for your children to play outdoors.If you are advised to stay indoors, take steps to keep indoor air as clean as possible. Keep your windows and doors closed – unless it’s extremely hot outside.Check the Air Quality Index (AQI) forecast for your area. The AQI, based on data from local air quality monitors, tells you about the daily air quality in your area and recommends precautions you can take to protect your health. As smoke gets worse, the concentration of particles in the air changes – and so do the steps you should take to protect yourself. Visit www.AIRNow.gov for local forecast and conditions.Run your air conditioner, if you have one. Keep the fresh air intake closed and the filter clean to prevent bringing additional smoke inside. Note: If you don’t have an air conditioner, staying inside with the windows closed may be dangerous in extremely hot weather. In these cases, seek alternative shelter.Help keep particle levels inside lower. When smoke levels are high, try to avoid using anything that burns, such as wood fireplaces, gas logs, gas stoves – and even candles! Don’t vacuum. That stirs up particles already inside your home. And don’t smoke. That puts even more pollution in your lungs, and in the lungs of people around you.If you have asthma or other lung disease, make sure you follow your doctor’s directions about taking your medicines and following your asthma management plan. Call your doctor if your symptoms worsen.If you have heart or lung disease, if you are an older adult, or if you have children, talk with your doctor about whether and when you should leave the area. When smoke is heavy for a prolonged period of time, fine particles can build up indoors even though you may not be able to see them.Make sure you are protecting yourself through proper Nutrition.
